International Council for Capital Formation
April 4, 2007

ICCF Managing Director Dr. Margo Thorning was a keynote speaker at the annual conference of the European Climate Forum (ECF) held in Berlin, Germany, on 26-27 March 2007. The ECF conference, “Financing the Next Industrial Revolution – Global Investments for Climate and Energy Security,” brought together a group of international climate and energy experts from business, academia and think tanks for an intensive, two-day focus on scientific, financial, and regional climate and energy issues.

Dr. Thorning met with Polish climate policy experts in Warsaw to discuss “Climate Change: Advancing Clean Development and Energy through Partnership,” on 28 March 2007. During her visit, she met with the members of the Environment Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce, where she spoke on “Climate Change: Advancing Clean Development and Energy through Partnership” and “How Will Democratic Control of the House and Senate Affect the U.S. Approach to Climate Change Policy.” Dr. Thorning also met with Mr. Krzysztof Olendrzynski, National Emission Center Manager, Institute of Environmental Protection, and others from the Institute to discuss issues concerning the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). In addition, Dr. Thorning gave a lecture at the Warsaw School of Economics on “Climate Change: Advancing Clean Development and Energy through Partnership.”

RAI Utile studios (Digital Channel of the National State TV) in Rome interviewed Dr. Thorning on 29 March 2007 on U.S. energy and climate policy. On 30 March, she lectured on “Economic Growth, Technology Transfer and CO2 Emission Reductions” at Centro Studi Americani, a cultural exchange facilitator. Also on the panel were Corrado Clini, Director General, International Environmental Protection, Ministry of the Environment and Davide Tabarelli, President, Nomisma Energy. The discussion made a valuable contribution to the U.S./Italian dialogue on policies to reduce the growth in greenhouse gas emissions. Dr. Thorning was also interviewed by La Nuova Ecologia, Legambiente’s publication, one of the biggest environmental associations in Italy.
